Behind the Seams: Why Our First Cover Is Taking a Little Longer (And Why We're Glad It Is)

When we started prototyping our first PICC line and midline covers, we had a timeline in mind. That timeline has moved. More than once, actually.
Here's the truth: we'd rather build something right than build something fast.
Over the past several weeks, we've been deep in fittings, feedback sessions, and fabric testing, and the version of this cover we're moving forward with is meaningfully different from where we started. A few of the changes:
The fabric. We landed on a polyester-spandex blend with 4-way stretch. It moves with the body instead of against it, holds up to daily wear, and, critically for a product people will need to wear consistently, it's machine washable. Adaptive design only works if it fits into a real routine, not just a photoshoot.
The fit. We tapered the end of the cover so it sits more snugly against the arm. A small structural change, but it makes a real difference in how secure and intentional the piece feels: less like something added on, more like something designed for you.
The access. This one came directly from listening to the people we're designing for: we added an access hole in the sleeve so the wearer can reach their line whenever they need to, without removing the entire cover. It sounds simple. It's not, but it matters enormously for anyone managing daily care.
None of these were in our original plan. All of them came from sitting with real feedback and choosing to respond to it, even when that meant pushing our production timeline back.
We know waiting isn't glamorous. But at Nova, we'd rather delay a launch than deliver something that doesn't actually work for the people wearing it. Every pivot is data. Every fitting is a conversation. And every person who's shared their experience with us so far has shaped this product in a way no mood board ever could.
More updates soon, including a closer look at the prototypes themselves.
If you're someone living with a PICC line or midline and want to be part of our ongoing feedback process, we'd love to hear from you.
